Places to go in and about Prescott

A. Lynx Lake- Hwy 89 to Walker Rd. approx 4 miles on the left
a. Collect bread ends in a bag in the freezer and take them
to feed the ducks.
b. Fishing (mostly trout and bluegill) *Get a license and
info at WalMart, or Kmart.
c. Boating- rentals are available on the north side of the
lake during the summer.
d. Picnicking/BBQ- grills are available on the south side of
the lake, but there aren't many picnic tables.

B. Wolf Creek- Senator Highway until it turns to dirt, right
hand turn, go past Pine Summit Camp and the creek is on the
left.
a. No water or facilities

C. Granite Creek Park
a. Bring a container to collect crawdads in the creek.
b. Playground and covered eating area.
c. Bring sand toys for the sand area.

D. Granite Basin Recreational Area- right hand turn off Iron
Springs Rd, past Wildwood
a. Picnic area next to the lake.
b. Lots of hiking trails- maps and info available at the
National Forest Service offices
c. Campground available (Yavapai Campground)

E. Potato Patch- Hwy 89A to the top of Mingus Mountain, left
hand turn just after the summit
a. Picnicking/overnight camping
b. Great view of Sedona from the top.

F. Rafter 6 Horseback Riding
a. Minimum age is 7.
b. 1 hour is $25, 2 hours is $35.
c. Make reservations before arriving
d. 2 1/2 miles east on Perkinsville Road, north of Chino
Valley.

G. Goldwater Lake- follow signs from Senator Highway
a. Lots of picnic tables/grills
b. Fishing (mostly bass)
c. Covered eating area that also can be rented through
Parks & Rec.

H. Fain Lake, Prescott Valley- South of Glassford Hill Road,
turn right and follow signs
a. Fishing for bluegill, bass
b. Picnic area
c. Bathrooms
d. Sand beach

I. Sledding/Tobogganing at Cinderpit near Williams- Hwy 89 North
to Ashfork, East on 40 to Williams, take Williams exit in to
town, follow sign to Williams ski area, go past ski area,
turnoff another 1 mile, look for snowplay area and parking on
right.

J. Stargazing/Meteor Shower
Information can be found on the Internet as to when meteor
showers will be in our area.

K. Yavapai College/YMCA/PV Pool
All have different hours and fees, so call ahead.

L. Sedona
a. Berry picking in early September along the Oak Creek.
Bring gloves and buckets and wear jeans.
b. Parking fees in some areas
c. Hiking- maps available at Visitor's Center
d. Slide rock- there is a parking fee. This is best during
the hot weather. Bring shorts and extra clothes
(sometimes the slide can wear a hoe in bathing suits),
plus sunscreen.

M. Hiking- lots of information at the National Forest Service
and local bookstores
a. Thumb Butte Loop- start at Thumb Butte park; it's somewhat
strenuous.
b. Lynx Lake- hike around the lake; long but fairly level
c. Little Granite Trail #37- Iron Springs Road 8/10 mile
after Alto Road on right. At Clark Spring, cut off Trail
#40, go right and follow trail along creek. Best time is
February and March when the creek is still running.

N. Prescott/Prescott Valley/Chino Valley Libraries
a. Story time for preschoolers. Times vary, so call ahead.

O. Santa Maria River- at Kirkland Junction, turn right and go
over the railroad tracks, at mile marker 9, go over a bridge
over the river. There are places to park or camp if you turn
right before or after the bridge.
a. No facilities and no water
b. Great beaches, swimming, lots of wildlife
c. Rattlesnakes after it gets warm

P. Roller Skating
a. Available in Prescott and Prescott Valley. Times and costs
vary.
b. YMCA also has an outdoor skate park for skateboards and
in-line skates.

Q. Plays
a. Prescott Fine Arts Theater has various plays throughout
the year. Call for more info (928) 445-3286.
